Revitilizing Long creek

The Optimist sports leagues were a part of the Long Creek community for decades, playing ball on the athletic fields right next to homes.  Children from the school used to walk down to the teacherage site for educational nature walks where they would identify trees.  At the end of the school year, classes would have a Luau style picnic on the lawn of the Teacherage.

Beatties Ford Road Corridor Small Area Plan: In 2005, The Town of Huntersville retained the services of Gemini Studios, Warren Associates and the Littlejohn Group to prepare a market based vision for the intersection of Mt. Holly-Huntersville and Beatties Ford Road. The focus of the plan was to create a new “urban village” centered on the Long Creek Elementary School. The plan identified a number of initiatives that are relevant to The Beatties Ford Road Corridor Small Area Plan, including:

• Focusing retail development on Mt. Holly- Huntersville Road (25,000 – 50,000 square feet demand by the year 2015)

• Making the Long Creek Elementary School the focal point of the future Long Creek hamlet center

• Increasing residential development

• Developing a roundabout at McCoy and Beatties Ford Road (since plans can be changed and adjusted based on need, this project has since been changed to a stoplight intersection coming Summer 2024)
